Rize and TimeUno both track your computer time automatically and sort it for you. Rize still sells focus tools for individuals, but on 27 August 2026 it relaunched as "Rize for Agencies and Teams", with profitability by client, capacity planning and invoicing, aimed at teams of 10 or more at agencies, accounting firms and consultancies. Its plans now run from Basic to Max, with AI usage metered in credits.

TimeUno stays simpler. It records your day in the background, files it into projects, builds timesheets, and tracks the time your AI coding tools spend working. Here is how the two compare on price, tracking, projects, privacy and AI, with prices as of October 2026 from each company's own pricing page.

The short answer

Pick Rize if you run an agency, accounting firm or consultancy and want tracked time to flow into profitability, capacity planning and invoices. Also pick it if you want focus tools like a distraction blocker, or if you want the cheapest entry price for one person.

Pick TimeUno if you want an accurate record of your day without an agency platform around it. It costs less than Rize Pro and less than half of Rize Team per seat, runs on Linux, stores data in Germany, and counts the work your AI coding agents do, with tokens and cost.

How tracking works

Both start the same way: no timer, nothing to press.

Rize records metadata about your active window: the app name, window title, URL when available, and timestamps. By default it takes no screenshots and records no keystrokes or window content. Its security page also mentions optional Screen Text data, deleted within 30 days, so screen text capture exists as an opt-in. AI sorts and tags your time, and since September 2026 Labels and App & Website Rules have replaced Categories. Rize also measures Focus Time, using a 75% threshold within 15-minute windows, and offers smart breaks and Google Calendar and Outlook for meetings.

TimeUno records the app or site in front of you, the window title, idle time and the project you are in. It never records what you type. Every stretch is sorted into a project and a category, and marked as productive or unproductive. When it files something wrong, you correct it once and it remembers.

The tracking is close. What each one builds on top of it is not.

Projects and timesheets

Rize is now built for client work at scale. You import clients and projects from ClickUp or a CSV file, and sync tasks from ClickUp, Linear and Asana (two-way with Asana). On top of that it shows profitability by client, project and member, for hourly, retainer and hybrid work, plus resourcing and capacity planning, invoicing from tracked time with PDFs and payment recording, and personal and team timesheets. Roles include Admin, Manager, Member, Viewer, Finance and Resourcing grants. Client and scheduled reports in PDF and CSV start on Pro.

TimeUno detects the project from what you were working in: the folder open in your editor, or keywords you set for a client or project. Timesheets are built from tracked time per project for this week, last week or this month, with a client name. You edit any line and export as CSV. There are no billable rates, no invoices and no capacity planning. If you need those, Rize does far more.

To be fair about it: Rize Basic is a little cheaper than TimeUno Individual. But Basic leaves out several things that matter to developers and freelancers. Client and scheduled reports, the AI efficiency dashboard, AI automations and agents, the MCP server, API, webhooks and Zapier all start on Pro, at more than twice TimeUno's price. Max mostly adds a bigger AI credit allowance and priority support.

For a team the gap is wider. Rize Team costs $29.99 per seat billed yearly, against $13.99 for TimeUno Team. TimeUno also charges in EUR (€14.99 and €19.99 monthly), and Rize does not show euro prices.

Privacy: what each one sees

Rize runs on Google Cloud in US regions, with data encrypted at rest using Google-managed keys and TLS 1.2 or higher in transit. Its SOC 2 Type II audit has started but is not complete. In a team, each person sees their own data first and approves what is shared, and only time tagged to a client or team project is visible to the admin. Redaction, including scheduled redaction, is available. By default it takes no screenshots.

TimeUno stores data in Germany and never sells it. Screenshots and on-screen text are on by default, and you can turn them off for each computer. So out of the box, TimeUno captures more than Rize does. From AI tools it reads metadata only, never your prompts, answers or code. In a team, admins see worked time and scores, never your apps or sites, and the team dashboard shows weekly totals, never anyone's screens.

If EU data storage matters to you or your clients, TimeUno is the simpler answer. If you want the fewest captures by default, Rize is the quieter option.

AI: AI credits vs tracking your AI tools

Rize has put AI everywhere: auto-categorization and tagging, AI chat, focus insights, an AI efficiency dashboard, AI automations and agents, AI Reports, Routines, Shared AI Skills, Agent Context, a ChatGPT partnership integration (September 2026) and an MCP server. Usage is metered in AI credits, and the plan you pay for sets how many you get.

TimeUno uses AI on a different problem: the AI tools you work with. Claude, Cursor and other coding agents often keep working while you do something else. TimeUno gives that work its own timeline, with tokens and cost. The desktop app picks up sessions on your computer, and the server agent (timeuno-agent) picks them up on a remote server. For a team, admin connectors for Anthropic and Cursor add this with nothing to install.

When Rize is the better choice

  • You run an agency, accounting firm or consultancy and want profitability, capacity and invoicing in one tool.
  • You need roles such as Finance and Resourcing.
  • You want a distraction blocker, focus music and smart breaks.
  • You want an AI chat and AI agents working on your time data.
  • You want the lowest price for one person and Basic covers what you need.
  • You want no screenshots by default.

When TimeUno is the better choice

  • You want a clear record of your day, not an agency platform.
  • You work with AI coding tools and want their time, tokens and cost counted.
  • Your projects are folders in your editor.
  • You use Linux.
  • You want your data stored in Germany rather than the US.
  • You run a small team and want to pay less than half per seat.
  • You want a 14-day trial instead of 7.

Can you use both?

Yes. An agency can keep Rize for client profitability and invoices, while a developer on the team runs TimeUno to see their whole day, including the hours their AI agents work. Both run on Mac and Windows. Compare a week of each and you will see whether you need Rize's agency features or only the record of your day.

Questions people ask

Is Rize still a focus app?

Partly. Rize still has a Focus Time metric, a Distraction Blocker for apps and websites, focus music and smart breaks. But since August 2026 its main pitch is agencies and teams. TimeUno marks every hour productive or unproductive, but it has no blocker.

Is TimeUno cheaper than Rize?

For one person, Rize Basic is slightly cheaper ($9.99 against $10.49 a month, billed yearly). Against Rize Pro, Max or Team, TimeUno costs less, and for teams it is less than half the price per seat.

Does Rize work on Linux?

No. Rize lists Linux as not supported and coming soon. TimeUno has a Linux app in beta, as an AppImage for Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora.

Can I import my Rize data into TimeUno?

Not today. TimeUno starts tracking from the day you install it. Most people keep their Rize reports and compare a week of each.
